Hong Kong Heritage Museum is celebrating the life of Cantonese opera icon Dr Lam Kar Sing.
HONG KONG, HK, August 04, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The life's work of Dr Lam Kar Sing is celebrated in a new exhibition at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum entitled Virtuosity and Innovation.
He is widely acclaimed for his contribution to Cantonese opera, an art form that received the honour of being named on the Unesco Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009.
According to the organisers of this new collection, Dr Lam's influence is explored though the display of costumes, handbills, stills, records and other mementos from his performances.
In a statement, they added: "Born in 1933, he became a disciple of the maestro Sit Kok Sin in 1949 and, inspired by Sit's artistic influence, he committed himself to a lifelong and tireless pursuit of excellence."
Although he retired from the stage in 1993, the performer continued to support Cantonese opera and ensure its continued development.
Dr Lam was also involved in films such as Teenage Romance, A Sad Wedding Night, A Perfect Match and The Beauty and the Swordsman.
The venue is closed on Tuesdays and opens from 10:00 local time every other day. It shuts at 18:00 daily except Sunday, when it closes at 19:00.
Admission costs HK$10 (80 pence).
