World's finest judokas on display in Bercy
PARIS, FRANCE, July 21, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With an Olympic year on the horizon, the World Championships of any sport take on an even greater significance than normal.
Judo is no different, and from August 23rd-28th the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy hosts the World Judo Championships 2011. It will be the fifth time that Paris has staged the event.
For the French, the event is seen as vital preparation for next year's Games, with judo an event they traditionally do very well in.
Past champions such as Thierry Rey, David Douillet and Beatrice Rodriguez have given French judo a fearsome reputation, with the flag now being flown by the sensational Teddy Riner, who in 2007 became the youngest ever world champion at just 18 years old, and has been a world champion every year since.
60,000 spectators are expected at the event over the six days of competition, with 120 nations represented by some 900 athletes.
Hotels-Paris.co.uk has a wide selection of hotels to choose from which will give you fantastic access to the arena. Boutique hotels such as Pershing Hall are just some of the choices available.
